Münster has a long history of excellence in biomedical and analytical research and a world reputation in innovation in nanotechnology. The nano-bioanalytic focus is a logical development of the nanoanalytic and life science research of international standard being performed at the University of Münster, the University of Applied Science in Münster, and in over thirty biotechnology companies. Several interdisciplinary centers already exist for the explicit promotion of innovation in nano-bioanalysis. These include:
- Center for Nanotechnology (CeNTech)
- Laserzentrum der Fachhochschule Münster
- Interdisciplinary Centre for Electron Microscopy
- Max-Planck Institute für Molecular Biomedicine
- Center for Molecular Biology of Inflammation (ZMBE)
- Interdisciplinary Centre for Clinical Research (IZKF)
- European Institute for Molecular Imaging (EIMI)
- Cells in Motion (CiM) Interfaculty Centre
- Center for Soft Nanoscience (SON)
